when my grandmother could no longer knit because of her arthritis, she gave me her collection of traditional alpine cable patterns. today i knit for her.
to be precise, my family is not from the ennstal, but from the murtal. and to be honest, i loathe the classic knee-high socks with their allover cable patterns, complicated, old-fashioned and ugly. but one or two of these traditional cables placed asymmetrically on toe up socks look smooth and modern.
